Where to get a Malaysia tourist sim card?

Getting a sim card in Malaysia is not at all a difficult task nor a complicated one. However, you can also use your home sim card if you have a phone carrier that supports international services. My home phone provider Verizon(USA) charges $10 a day. That would definitely be an expensive option. if traveling for awhile. You can get a local card if your phone is unlocked for much cheaper. Hence, buying a sim card is the best option. As far as the type of sim is concerned, I would personally recommend you to buy a prepaid one its a very good value for your money.

Talking about where to get a sim card in Malaysia, you can buy it from the Kuala Lumpur airport or any airport in Malaysia as soon as you land. You can also order one for pick up on arrival which makes the entire process even easier if you are planning ahead. Along with that, many of the major shopping malls like Sunshine Farlim Shopping Mall in Penang also offer shops to purchase a prepaid sim card.

If you are particular about the services and offers you get, I would recommend you to purchase it directly from the company. The company guy will have the answer to all your queries.

Whether you are a backpacker, traveler or expat there are three options available to buy a Malaysia prepaid sim card for tourists and expats.

Purchase it before leaving home

The first and ideal choice of getting a sim card is online, i.e., before leaving home. This option gives you the advantage of easy to pick-up on arrival. This is the easiest and the best option for saving a few bucks, it’s for those who want to make sure to get a card as soon as he/she arrives. This option is best for those who want data more than a sim card to make calls.

Sim card on arrival

If don’t want to prepare for your trip and buy a sim card before leaving home, then you can prefer this option. It is also quite easy to get a sim card as you reach there. On our first trip to Malaysia, we went with Digi. We were told they had one of the larger networks here, they offered some great plans and at amazing prices.

The carrier company has plenty of packages to choose from that might confuse you. Hence, you need to make sure and double-check which plan will be apt for you.
