February 1, 2019 By Jimmy Huss

The Philippines is one country that every traveler would want to tick in his bucket list. Tah and I were already on the beautiful Island of Cebu. The famous Kawasan falls with all its alluring beauty, invited us that day!

How to reach Kawasan Falls from Dumaguete?

If you stay in Dumaguete, you can rent a bike. This would be an ideal decision to go around Cebu. After seeing all those amazing pictures of Kawasan falls on the web, how can one resist going there? Take the first ferry from Dumaguete to Cebu and ride for one hour on the bike up the west coast and you will reach Kawasan falls.

Falls in Cebu – Visiting Kawasan Falls

There are many things that you would fall in love at this place! Here are a few things that will make you fly to Cebu, right away!

The best route to Kawasan canyoneering

Kawasan Falls tour is known for canyoneering. Though there are many ways, most of the traveler’s canyoneering from Alegria. There are a lot of agents who help in traversing the route to the falls. A lot of jumping, walking, and climbing is involved in this.

You will encounter a river and waterfall every 10 minutes or so. You will have to cross this by swimming across the river or sliding down the waterfall to spot yet another one that side. Halfway to the falls, there is a point where there is water just to your knee-level and so you can chill here for a while. Only as you enter the Kawasan falls you will see crowds of people.

Before you start canyoneering, make sure you have proper shoes and it is highly recommended to go canyoneering with a guide to experience the path to Kawasan falls. However, if you are hungry for more adventure, then get going on your own!

Once you reach the destination, you will have to walk for some time to get to the falls. I bet this will be one of the most perfect pathways you will encounter. While hundreds of palm trees adore the passage, a beautiful blue river attracts your sight on one side.

One of the most common things you will find in the Philippines is its dogs. There are plenty of them roaming in Kawasan falls too! The locals claim that they aren’t harmful.

As you walk a little further, you will come in contact with the best of the blues that you’ve seen in your life. A lovely river flows by from a waterfall that seems like a natural shower. It must be 75 feet below and jumping into it would be something really exciting.

Blue water Philippines

There is no single person who wasn’t mesmerized by the blue of the waters here. However, there is a ‘science’ thing behind this. Did you know what? Kawasan falls got its magical blue because of the high amount of limestone deposits in this place.

You can have some tasty chicken and squid if you feel hungry on your way. The locals direct you towards about seven other waterfalls and a dam. The stairway to that place is so clean and you can obviously see people cleaning them every now and then. No wonder why this is the top waterfalls in Cebu. Many houses are put up everywhere on the path. Most of them have been converted into restaurants while the others are stores.

Cliff Jump Falls in Cebu

From the very sight of the blue waters, you would want to soak yourself into it. Gain some courage to climb up the cliff and just jump off into the cold waters. It may seem a bit scary but it actually isn’t! The landing is completely smooth as the current is sucked by water. You will never regret such an experience!

Don’t be surprised to spot some people swinging on the branches of trees and jumping down into the river. If you have been to Bali, you would connect this place to ‘Aling Aling’. They look a bit similar.

How to avoid the crowd at Kawasan Falls?

Being one of the famous Filipino falls, it is crowded most of the time. Here are some tips for your Kawasan Falls tour, by avoiding the crowd–

  • Avoid going on the weekends as you can see a swarm of people. Choose to go on a weekday.
  • Take the earliest bus or ride away to reach there before 7 AM. Buses don’t ply before 5 AM and so if you are staying somewhere far, we recommend you to take a cab or hire a bike.
  • The earlier you go, the less the crowd is. At this hour of the day, you can capture some amazing photographs of the waterfalls.

The Fantastic Pinoy festival

A group of locals invited us to their fiesta. We learned from them that every last day of January, they celebrate this Filipino fiesta by gathering together and making the traditional dish of Cebu. A pig that is stitched with some filling is taken. In open firewood, the pig is roasted slowly for about two hours. This dish is made only on one day of the year, which is on the 31st of January. We pondered on it to taste the most delicious pork we have ever had. The liver part of the dish was too good. The whole meat was rubbery in texture and tasted very unique.

The rainy season from late June to early December. Perhaps, both the seasons don’t interrupt you from enjoying the beauty of the falls.
