How to get to Hongdae

Hongdae is actually a subdistrict in Seoul, which is an abbreviation of Hongik Daehakgyo or Hongik University – a premier art school in Seoul. Hongdae Seoul is located in Mapo-gu on the western side the city. It’s a tourist hotspot and is very easily accessed by taking the subway (line 2) to Hong-ik University station. In order to get to the walking street area which is referred to as one of the most happening areas of Seoul, you can easily get out of the subway station at Exit 9. You will see KFC on the left-hand side, then you can just walk down the street next to it.

Where to stay in Hongdae

Hongdae is known for having budget-friendly accommodation compared to other touristy neighborhood. You can also find plenty of backpacker hostels in Hongdae as well as some incredible Airbnb’s. Most of the time when we travel we stay in Airbnb but Booking.com has some great options to choose from. We can only personally suggest one hotel in Hongdae and that is:

YOLO House in Hongdae – They offer mini apartments which were perfect for us. If we were to stay in a hostel it would have cost us almost the same price for the two of us and this property is very modern with Subway access very near. This allows you to not only be close to Hongdae but get to other parts of the city very easily.

The most common deal we found is “buy 1 get 1 free” for cosmetic and skincare related items or clothes cost as low as $5 USD. Some of the popular stores in Hongdae is Artbox – which sells miscellaneous goodies from electronics item to stationary or even cute souvenir. You can also buy handmade souvenirs here.  The good thing about shopping in Seoul is that some places offer a tax refund if your bill is over 30,000 Korean Won.

Hongdae is not only a great location for all art including handmade items like clothes, jewelry drawings but a great place to see some of the best live entertainment like Kpop performances and Magicians. We had such a fun time walking the streets with some incredible street snacks and watching the live performances for hours. The first of many posts from our trip to Costa Ric The first of many posts from our trip to Costa Rica. This was not only a much-needed trip away from the computer but a great opportunity to celebrate my 30th birthday! ⁣
⁣
This was the first trip I have ever been on that I didn’t plan a single thing. I didn’t look at any maps I didn’t care where we went, just wanted to spend some much-needed alone time with @jrherrm. ⁣
⁣
A couple of things we learned….⁣
⁣
It rains a lot in the rainforest 😂 🌧⁣
⁣
When searching for wildlife, you need to look closely or pay for a guide that has a telescope. ⁣
⁣
Make sure you bring some @western_rise clothes because they are about the only durable and quick-dry clothes that were actually able to dry with the humidity in the rain forest: Discount Code DIVERTLIVING⁣
⁣
Bring an umbrella, Rain jackets won’t cut it.⁣
⁣
When booking a rental car, just expect your price to double from what your reservation says.⁣
⁣
Spend an entire day in the hot springs, but make sure your reservation is made no later than seven days in advance⁣
⁣
Hiking shoes and water shoes are a must⁣

We just arrived in Tel Aviv and I have to say this We just arrived in Tel Aviv and I have to say this is truly one of my favorite cities I have ever visited! Every city and place in the world has positives and negatives and all of these differ by each person. When you research a city or visit a city you have to be open to knowing you will not like everything about each place.⁣
⁣
And that brings me to this point. ⁣
⁣
I hate the Negativity, the constant bad-mouthing of people and places based on a select few. To be honest, if I listened to everything I saw or heard I wouldn't travel anywhere due to rumors or fear. ⁣
⁣
If I have learned anything over the years it’s this, just because you see something on the news or a post on the internet doesn’t mean you should jump to conclusions. Make your own decisions, learn first hand what the people are like what the food is like, and come to your own conclusions. ⁣
⁣
Be open, be accepting, be courteous and be careful what you believe.⁣
⁣
The people in Israel have been nothing but incredible. I really don’t think I had one bad interaction the entire trip and I can’t wait to go back and see more!⁣

When it comes to travel and research you can spend hours researching all the best things to do and see but nothing will compare to the suggestions from locals. Almost every place I travel to I always make sure to ask all the locals we interact with what their recommendations are. ⁣
⁣
Today's recommendation led us two hours into the jungle to some pretty incredible caves and waterfalls. ⁣
⁣
I ended up leaving @steveyalo at the cave, this is the last I saw of him the whole trip. I think he may still be there doing Thai chi in the jungle⁣
